Home Selling Tips. Sell a Home Faster in this Real Estate Market

Ever wonder about home decorating decisions that you have made that actually hurt you more than help you? When we think about our homes, we can try and create an overall mood for the room. We try hard to clean out all the clutter and focus on furnishing and decorating. But did you know that some decisions that we make can have a negative impact on our home and in fact, make it look messier than what we planned for? Better Homes and Gardens mentions 6 Decorating Mistakes that Make Your Home Look Messier Than It Really Is. One of them is Relying Too Much on Open Storage.  They reference decorating something like a bookshelf. Maintaining open shelves are a great place to store books and display collectibles or art. However, to best achieve a clean look and a less overcrowded space, it is best to have more open space. In other words, sometimes less is more.

Another important thing is Using Too Many Colors. This is something to really consider when selling a home.

Decorating with too many colors is guaranteed to make a home look cluttered. Use one or two hues combined with neutral colors to give your home a cohesive, relaxed look.

They give a great photo reference

This living room features various shades of blue to create a gorgeous, cohesive space. The neutral rug, window coverings, and furnishings allow the room to breathe while making it appear more spacious and open.

This is a great example of when someone is in the process of selling a home. Yes, there are people who like bold colors as much as you do, but sometimes the best choice when selling a home is sticking to neutral colors. In fact, if you want to sell a home the fastest wayUpNest talks about Which color someone should choose, like neutrals

The best colors are neutrals, but which one? For 2021, the general consensus for best interior paint colors for selling a house are shades of greige. Greige is a combination of gray and beige, more sophisticated than an old-fashioned beige and at the same time more welcoming than a somber gray.

How beneficial is it to a seller to have beautiful curb appeal?

What about pillows. So many people make this very simple mistake. Better Homes and Gardens goes on to say,

Two or three accent pillows on each end of the sofa are typically the perfect amount to decorate a room with beautiful color and pattern.

So how many pillows should you have, whether it be for personal reason or when aiming to sell your home? I would say no more than three or four, but consider swapping out for two or three. You always want to think about finding a way to give your sofa a fresh and custom look, and just a few pillows can really help. And if you really love color, using brighter colored pillows will really help the room stand out. Consider finding a Real Estate Agent, like myself , who can help you through the selling process and help guide you with some stagging tips.

Now many people love hanging pictures randomly, and hanging pictures can be very helpful when decorating or selling a home

Pictures and wall art hung in haphazard fashion across a wall creates a chaotic look that can overwhelm the space.

Better Homes and Gardens also talks about Placing Too Much Decor on Tables as well as Pushing Furniture Against Walls. These are great general tips when decorating or designing your own home and great advice for home sellers. Find a Real Estate Agent that has experience when selling a home. A Real Estate Agent with a stagging background, like myself, can help guide a home seller through the process by suggesting great tips that buyers are looking for when walking through the property.

A lot of home sellers forget about depersonalizing. Ultimately, it's always up to the sellers, but does depersonalizing help sell your home faster? In fact, Depersonalizing your home is one of the most important steps in the home staging process. Creative Home Stages says

The absolute number one thing to start with during your depersonalization is the removal of personal pics. Particularly if you’ve got pictures of people or pets, storing them while your house is on the market is a good way to help buyers picture themselves, not your family, living in the home. The only pictures you can consider leaving up are those that aren’t inherently personal: landscape photos you took on your last vacation or close-ups of interesting architectural details, for example.
